The last few weeks have been really busy for me. Here are a few things that have been happening…
Ordering supplies
I ordered all my Supplies! This was so exciting, pretty much like Christmas! I believe that it is essential to use only good quality supplies. That includes, brands like Prismacolor, Blick Markers, Golden acrylic paint, Winsor & Newton watercolor, Strathmore paper and much much more. I’m am pretty excited to use these products with the kids.
Part of the way to find success in art is to find and use products that feel good and really shine in their quality.
For example: Prismacolor has quite a line of products including, Graphite pencils, Markers, and color pencils, erasers and much more. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to create a drawing and working it over and over wondering why it is not “looking right” only to find out later that it was only because of the materials you were using. I can tell the difference immediately when I am using a good line of products. It feels really good, the colors go on smoothly and usually blending is a much better experience!
Lesson Plans
Next comes lesson plans. Here is an example I have drawn of one of the lessons I am going to offer to the older students. This lesson involves learning how to use pencils, including the famous method developed by one of my favorite art reference book by the author Lee Hammond.
She teaches the technique of using a mechanical pencil to create smooth blending and deep darks with natural highlights. This technique is impressive and helps Students learn how to create skin that looks soft and real. This technique will be taught in the Studio with relation to body parts, including the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, etc and how to put them together to create a portrait. Students will be taught how to use the regular drawing pencil in which they will learn the different grades of pencil from the hard graphite of a 4H pencil all the way through the soft graphite of a 8B pencil.
Next comes the fun part…
Teaching! Kindred Art offers classes for children as young as the age of three and up to twelve years old.
