This week we drew Water Dragons!
It reminds me of the Movie How to Train your Dragon, which was posted on my Facebook page before hand so the parents could show the kids and get them excited about weeks lessons!
The Water Dragon is exciting. I think every kid would love to take a ride on their own dragon. Be it a water one or flying one. You will see that many of the artists here did a mix of both!
Wow after watching this clip who doesn’t want to draw their own dragon!
Although the closest thing we can really get to a dragon is the Leafy Sea Dragon…..its still fun to draw and see what a real Sea Dragon could look like.
Next we looked at this book for:
Dragon inspiration
I love Books! Tons and tons of fun information to really expand the imagination! We read Dragonology by Dr Ernest Drake. You can find this book here

This lesson was specifically made to encourage different shapes, such as the spikes on the dragon back and the open ended possibility of what color the dragon may be. The best lessons are those which give the student room to make choices. I love presenting lessons where there are possibilities. As you can see one student decided to have fire coming out of the dragons nose. The other wanted a polka dot dragon and one wanted to incorporate color over the whole page.
Here are a few more drawings done by the Students at Monforton school!
Drawn by a 8 year old!
Drawn by a 9 year old- This student was not able to finish all of his dragon in class. When he got home he spent a great deal of time and finished the Dragon in circles…..the whole body!! I love his dedication!
Drawn by a 11 year old
You never know what they will think of! That’s what I love!
