When you are learning how to properly shade it is always helpful to learn by drawing the sphere. In this lesson students learn that there are 5 basic elements of shading that make up the sphere.

This video clip is done by the artist Lee Hammond. We practiced and learned same steps, only in regular pencils. The students learned the difference between the H pencil and the B pencil how the hardness goes up and down from these two points.
