So I wanted to do a fun lesson with Oil Pastels. They can render very rich deep colors and I am always fascinated at the results.
Banyan tree is a huge tree with very extensive branches. It is said that at one time more than 10, 000 people can sit under its shade at one time. It is a evergreen tree. It branches spread out and send trunk like roots to the ground in order to support itself.
A banyan tree, native to India. The banyan tree, considered sacred and representative of eternal life, is also a human symbol. In contemporary India, it is the national tree. Its linked roots and branches are sometimes used to symbolize the country’s unity.
I was inspired with this lesson here. Students first drew the tree in with marker, they focused on overlapping all of the branches. Then they used Acrylic black paint to paint in the tree. After the paint had dried they used the oil pastels to color in the sunset and the water. To finish the drew black ripples in the water using acrylic paint.
The Banyan Tree overlooks a lake. You can see the roots touching the water and creating a black ripple silhouette.
